Christos Kalkanis Solo (GR)

Christos Kalkanis was born in Athens in 1983 and is a multi-organist, composer and teacher. He received a diploma in clarinet from the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki in 2009 and a degree specializing in the interpretation and teaching of the clarinet from the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Thessaloniki in 2010.

In 2017 he completed his postgraduate studies at the same university. of the clarinet. He has collaborated with many artists, theatrical productions and dance productions as a clarinetist, pianist and composer. His aesthetic and artistic influences are related at the same time to his roots from Asia Minor and Thrace, as well as to his musical origins and studies in classical music but also in jazz, minimal and electronic music.

Τhe experimentation and coexistence of many different sounds, the integration of extra-musical elements, the birth of new paths in music creation are the basis for the musical idiom of his music. After his first solo presentation entitled “Local Soundscapes” in the context of the Chania festival “Open Sails” in November 2021 he continues to build his personal musical position as “Christos Kalkanis Solo”. A hybrid musical setup that combines both acoustic and electronic instruments and external music elements. The main goal is to experiment and research new ways of expression and creation in today’s era with a fresh and modern mood and aesthetics.
